EnM이 2014년 10월부터 Epub Ahead of Print로 초록 형태로 PubMed에서 search가 되었습니다. 논문이 accept된 후 출간까지의 대기기간 동안 저자님들의 논문을 Pubmed에 미리 게시할 수 있게 되었으며, 국내 저널로서는 두번째로 Epub를 시행하게 되었습니다. 2013년 영문화 이후 세계 각지에서 EnM을 검색하는 것이 한결 쉬어졌으며 해외 인용과 투고도 꾸준히 늘어가고 있다는 것을 알리게 되어 기쁜 마음입니다.

이번 EnM 29권 3호에는 5편의 종설과 7편의 clinical study, 8편의 endocrine research 원저가 실렸습니다. 특히, 종설의 경우에는 ‘갑상선 암’ 특집으로 구성되었습니다. 먼저, 경북대 김정국 교수님께서 “Molecular Pathogenesis and Targeted Therapies in Well-differentiated Thyroid carcinoma” 라는 제목으로 갑상선 암과 관련된 여러 proto-oncogenes과 targeted therapies에 대해서 정리해 주셨습니다. 아산병원 송영기 교수님께서 “Current Status and Future Perspectives in Differentiated Thyroid Cancer” 라는 제목으로 갑상선 암의 진단과 치료에 대한 최신지견을 정리해 주셨습니다. 서울대 이규언 교수님께서 “Can Robotic Thyroidectomy Be Performed Safely in Thyroid Carcinoma Patients?” 라는 제목으로 갑상선 암 수술에서 Robotic Thyroidectomy의 장단점에 대해서 정리해 주셨습니다. 서울대 정준기 교수님께서 “Radioiodine Therapy in Differentiated Thyroid cancer: The First Targeted Therapy in Oncology” 라는 제목으로 Sodium-iodide symporter (NIS) expression과 I-131을 이용한 갑상선 암 치료와의 관련성에 대해서 정리해 주셨습니다. 중국의 Weiping Teng 교수님께서 “Effects of Increased Iodine Intake on Thyroid disorders”라는 제목으로 universal salt iodization (USI)이 도입된 지 10년이 넘으면서 iodine excess가 갑상선 질환에 어떤 영향을 주는지에 대해서 정리해 주셨습니다.
원저로 “Cost-of-Illness Trends Associated with Thyroid Disease in Korea” 논문은 2002년 비교해서 2010년에 갑상선 질환 관련 의료비가 3.4배 증가했으며 주로 경제적 활동을 하는 30-50대 연령에서 가장 많이 차지하고 있다는 결과를 보여주었습니다. “Insufficient Experience in Thyroid Fine-Needle Aspiration Leads to Misdiagnosis of Thyroid Cancer” 논문은 비 숙련된 의사가 Fine-needle aspiration을 시행할 경우 숙련된 의사가 시행했을 때보다 false-negative rate가 높았다는 결과를 보여주었습니다. “Effect of Resveratrol, a SIRT1 Activator, on the Interactions of the CLOCK/BMAL1 Complex” 라는 논문은 SIRT1이 CLOCK/BMAL1과 regulatory complex를 형성할 것이라는 논문입니다. “Accelerated Disease Progression after Discontinuation of Sorafenib in a Patient with Metastatic Papillary Thyroid Cancer” 증례 논문은 폐와 근육전이를 동반하고 있던 갑상선 암 환자에서 sorafenib 사용을 중단 후에 전이성 병변이 급격히 진행하면서 악화되었던 환자에 대해서 보고한 논문입니다.
위에 소개한 논문 이외에도 MEN1, Macroprolactinoma 등 다양한 내분비 영역의 우수한 논문들이 이번 호에 실렸습니다.
